SESSIONS: 4

PURPOSE: To assist Care Partners in better understanding dementia and how to support the person living with dementia in their life.

TOPICS: The different types of dementia, the resulting changes in the brain, support skills, and understanding community resources.

Middle Stage Education Series


FOR: Care Partners, family members and friends of persons living with dementia

SESSIONS: 4

PURPOSE: Understanding the unique needs of the middle stage of dementia. How to support responsive behaviours, safety and security of the home environment.

TOPICS: Communication strategies, activities of daily living (ADL's) and self-care for the Care Partner.

Building Circles of Support


FOR: Care Partners, family members and friends of persons living with dementia

SESSIONS: 4

PURPOSE: Offers tools and resources for the journey of dementia. Learn to identify current and future support needs and explore ways to maintain and increase support.

TOPICS: Impact of the diagnosis, improving support, and reducing care partner stress using person-centered approach

U-First!® for Care Partners


FOR: Care Partners of persons living with dementia

SESSIONS: 4

PURPOSE: The U-First!
® for Care Partners education program supports Care Partners who are caring for someone experiencing behaviour changes caused by dementia.

TOPICS: Enhancing Care Partner well-being and that of the person living with dementia, use the U-First!® framework to reduce responsive behaviours, and improve collaboration among all Care Partner supports.

 

Long-Term Care Information Sessions


FOR: Care Partners of persons living with dementia, General Public

SESSIONS: 2

PURPOSE: Considering the decision to apply for Long-Term Care and the application process. Learn how to prepare for the move and what to expect when an offer for a room is made. Learn the differences between retirement residences and long-term care homes

Care in the Later Stages Education Series


FOR: Care Partners, family members and friends of persons living with dementia

SESSIONS: 5

PURPOSE: Understand what to expect in the late and end of life stages of dementia.

TOPICS: Having quality time with family members in the later stage of dementia, physical changes and planning needs. The series will also explore how participants can provide comfort to the person with dementia as well as review the experiences of grief and loss. 


 

Discover & Learn with RBC


FOR: Persons living with dementia, Care Partners, Healthcare Professionals, General Public

SESSIONS: 1 per month

PURPOSE: Free and safe information provided by Royal Bank of Canada. An opportunity to have your financial and advance care planning questions answered.

TOPICS: Wills & Power of Attorney, Estate Planning & Administration, the housing market, Retirement Home & Long-Term Care Planning, Banking Options, Fraud & Cyber Fraud, Tax-Free Savings Accounts, Investing in Retirement

Tuesday Lecture Series


FOR: Persons living with dementia, Care Partners, Healthcare Professionals, General Public

SESSIONS: 1 per month

PURPOSE: In-depth informational lectures that are inspired by popular topics regarding dementia and ageing well.

TOPICS: Past lectures have included: Genetics & Alzheimer's Disease, Intimacy, Dementia & Frailty, Meaningful Environments, Hearing Loss & Dementia 

 

Teepa Tuesdays


FOR: Care Partners, Healthcare Professionals, General Public

SESSIONS: 1 per month

PURPOSE: Learn, discuss, practice, and develop Teepa’s Positive Physical Approach dementia skills. 

TOPICS: Reviewing Positive Physical Approach and Hand-Under-Hand technique, vision changes, GEMS®, communication, standing to sitting, putting on clothing, importance of dominant side

Montessori Mondays


FOR: Care Partners, Healthcare Professionals, General Public

SESSIONS: 1 per month

PURPOSE: Learn and discuss the Montessori Principles and apply them to everyday life situations in the support of persons living with dementia.
 
TOPICS: 
The Montessori Approach to care focuses on people living with dementia being set up for success. Join us in these sessions, where each month we will focus on one of the twelve principles of the Montessori philosophy. People who support persons living with dementia will learn how to apply these principles to their real-life situations. Ultimately interactions between care partners and persons living with dementia may become more rewarding.
